The Philadelphia should pursue Reggie Jackson this offseason.

One of the major issues that the Philadelphia 76ers had last season was that they lacked a point guard that could create for himself and others. Now that the Sixers have hired Doc Rivers as their head coach, general manager Elton Brand should turn his attention to fixing that problem.

Brand has his options in trying to fill that void and one of those ways is through free agency. One of Rivers’ former point guards from last season will be on the market and the 76ers should gauge the veteran’s interest in joining the franchise.

The player in question is Reggie Jackson and he could go a long way in fixing Philly’s offensive problems.

Jackson started his career as a reserve for Russell Westbrook on the Oklahoma City Thunder. However, he got his chance to start once he was traded to the Detriot Pistons. Sadly for Jackson, things didn’t go smoothly for him in Detriot.

In terms of production, he was pretty good. He averaged 16.2 points and 5.6 assists, while converting 35.4 percent of his 3-pointers for the Pistons. The problem was his health as he only played in 45 games in the 2016-17 season and 52 games in the 2017-18 season.

He even struggled with health last season before getting waived by the Pistons. After he became a free agent he signed with the Los Angeles Clippers. He played very well under Rivers, primarily serving as a backup.

With the Clippers, he averaged 9.5 points and 3.2 assists while shooting 41.3 percent from downtown. It’s his familiarity with Rivers plus his ability to score and create for others that should make him a good free agent candidate.

Signing Jackson should be in the 76ers price range. His injury history plus the fact that he’s made it clear he wants to win based on him signing with the Clippers this past season should make negotiations with him easy. Getting him to sign for the veteran’s minimum should be in the realm of possibility.

Getting a player that is somewhat familiar with Rivers should be a priority for Brand and the Philadelphia 76ers this offseason. It just so happens that Jackson fits that bill.
