Joel Embiid: Garden croton

Embiid is definitely the hardest player to make a comparison to because he is just so uniquely distinct from everyone else. The plant I chose to compare him to is a pretty common house plant but has some interesting characteristics just like our big fella. The garden croton is a tropical shrub that can grow up to five or six feet tall (get it, because Jo’s tall too).

The garden croton symbolizes constant change. This is a pretty good description for our All-Star center. Ever since he stepped foot onto the court to play his first NBA game with the Philadelphia 76ers he has constantly changed — for better and for worse, but mostly for the better.

We have been able to watch his dominance and his defensive skills advance and develop over the years just like you can watch a garden croton grow and transform itself into a beautiful plant.
