Philadelphia 76ers: Best trade in team history with Phoenix Suns
The Philadelphia 76ers have one sneaky good trade with the Phoenix.
In a similar fashion with other some teams in this series of articles covering the best trades the Philadelphia 76ers have made, Phoenix Suns have won most of their trades with the Sixers. However, there is one trade that the Sixers sneakily came out on top of.
The trade history between the two clubs started in 1969 and the most recent one was the terrible deal that sent Richaun Holmes to Phoenix for just cashback in 2018. The most famous deal that the two teams ever made was when Philly sent Charles Barkley to the Suns.
There’s been a total of nine trades between the Suns and Sixers. It was the deal in 1990 that ended up being an indirectly decent trade for the 76ers down the round.

On the surface, this doesn’t look like a win for the Sixers. Big man Jayson Williams only averaged 3.8 points and 2.5 rebounds in two seasons for the 76ers before traded to the then-New Jersey Nets for two second round picks. However, within three years of this deal happening, Philly was the winner of this trade.
After the Sixers’ first round pick was dealt to the Suns, they traded it to the Seattle SuperSonics. The Sonics later sent it to the Charlotte Hornets in another deal. This is where the 76ers best trade with the Hornets comes into play. Philly got that pick back in that deal that was centered around Danna Barros and Hershey Hawkins.
That pick became Sharone Wright and the big man spent a season and a half with the Sixers before getting sent to the Toronto Raptors, where he spent with the rest of his career. With the 76ers, he averaged 11.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks.
Despite this being the best trade that the Philadelphia 76ers made with the Suns, this wasn’t a great deal for the club at the time and it only improved after several other trades were made.
