Sacramento Kings

There’s some merit to this one, sure. Buddy Hield is practically begging to leave Sacramento, and to an extent, he’s practically beginning to join Philadelphia. The Kings even tried to sign Horford last summer, but were outbid by the Sixers.

That is, of course, a key word. Outbid. As in, the Kings did not want to match or exceed Philadelphia’s offer. Now, after the worst season of Horford’s career since he was a rookie, there’s no reason to expect Sacramento to come feverishly knocking on the door.

Would the Kings consider a Horford-for-Hield swap? Probably. But in the end, Hield is younger than Horford, his extension is just kicking in, and the Kings still have leverage — even if Hield outright asks for a trade. The Sixers are not operating from a position of power when it comes to Horford.

Also, other teams are bound to pursue Hield. He would make a lot more sense for a team like Charlotte than Horford. Even Golden State could try to pull the ol’ Wiggins card. The Sixers’ best chance at jettisoning Horford could be in jeopardy because of other potential Horford “suitors.”

The Kings’ roster doesn’t exactly necessitate Horford’s presence either. Marvin Bagley is probably best at center, while Nemanja Bjelica and Harrison Barnes are both comfortable at power forward than small forward. Then there’s Richaun Holmes, who is younger, more athletic, and more affordable long-term. Even Harry Giles has some juice.

Don’t get your hopes up, Hield fans.
