The Philadelphia 76ers and Portland TrailBlazers have an unimpressive trade history.

There are some teams that the Philadelphia 76ers do not have an impressive trade history with and the Portland Trail Blazers are one of those teams in this series of articles. Despite both teams being around for a long time, there has never been a big trade between the two.

In fact, there have only been a total of four trades between the two clubs. The first trade occurred in 1972 and the most recent was 13-years go in 2007. The trade in 2007 was with players that never played for neither franchise involved and one of them never played in the NBA period.

The that benefited the Sixers most occurred in the 1979-80 season.

The best trade ever between Philly and Portland was…

Lionel Hollins was a 6-foot-3 guard in the 1970s and 1980s, but most casual and younger fans will know him as the former head coach of the Memphis Grizzlies and Brooklyn Nets. Before he won a title with the Los Angeles Lakers as an assistant coach this year, Hollins won one as a player with the Blazers.

More from History

He spent two and a half seasons with Philly and just missed their championship run by one year. During his time with the Sixers, he averaged 10.5 points, 4.1 assists, and 1.3 steals. He even started the whole 1981-82 season for the 76ers before getting traded to the then San Diego Clippers.

The first round pick that Philly sent to Portland was traded by the Blazers to the Chicago Bulls and then traded again to the Hawks. The pick ended up being the fourth pick in the 1981 draft and Al Wood was selected with it.

Wood averaged 11.8 points for his career but was a journeyman for six seasons before he last playing for the Dallas Mavericks at the age of 28. Wood a good run with the Sonics but, overall his career was too short considering he was the fourth overall pick.

It’s not a great trade, but trading for Hollins was the best one that the Philadelphia 76ers have made with the Portland Trail Blazers thus far.
