3. Robert Covington

Rarely does a player suit up for two different teams twice in his career. If Daryl Morey goes after Robert Covington, that rarity could happen.

Covington started his career with Houston in 2013. He made his way to Philly, Minnesota, and then made his way back to Houston. After the NBA draft in November, it is possible that RoCo might be welcomed back to the Sixers in a trade. Can Philly fans imagine a defensive lineup with Covington on the floor with Matisse Thybulle, Ben Simmons, and Joel Embiid? If they can’t, Doc Rivers can, and Morey could bring it to fruition.

After being traded away in 2018 for Jimmy Butler, Covington proved to be a valuable asset to Houston’s success this past year. Look at what he did in the playoffs. Covington averaged 11.2 points a game and 2.5 steals in 12 games. He also shot 50 percent from downtown (34-for-68) in the series he played and tallied almost 33 minutes a night. Defense and 3-point shooting would be a great addition to his former team. What would it take Morey to bring Covington back as a 3-and-D wing player?

He is set to make $12 million a year for the next two years, playing out his contract extension that he signed with the 76ers in 2017. Could Morey offer Josh Richardson and Furkan Korkmaz for a Covington return? It is a possibility. Of course Sixer fans would love to unload Al Horford’s hefty contract, but Morey would have to demand more in the trade than Houston would be willing to relinquish.

Should the Sixers get RoCo back, it would be a nice reunion that could reap great benefits.
