OKC needs more firepower offensively. While the core pieces are solid — Chris Paul, if he stays; Shai Gilgeous-Alexander; Dennis Schroder — the supporting cast is dangerously short on shooters and playmakers. OKC relied far too heavily on its three-pronged backcourt last season.
Jahmi’us Ramsey would mark a slight departure from the Thunder’s traditional NBA Draft route. Rather than a raw, untapped athleticism marvel a la Terrance Ferguson, Hamidou Diallo, et al., Ramsey is a gifted scorer who can provide a real punch off the bench. He’s still in need of growth as a facilitator, but given OKC’s other guard talent, Ramsey’s knack for putting the ball in the net could prove valuable on its own.
Ramsey is, in many ways, a raw and largely untapped talent. He’s still a project, which OKC tends to value. But his skill set can be applied directly to an area of need, which can’t be said for most of OKC’s most recent draft exploits.
