Guard / Iowa State. Washington Wizards. Tyrese Haliburton. 9. player. 142.

The Wizards have reached a crossroads. John Wall and Bradley Beal are locked up long-term, but given Wall’s injuries, the future of Washington’s star duo is uncertain. Beal has expressed no public interest in leaving, but what happens in the public eye doesn’t always tell the story. The Wizards could decide to break it up sooner than later.

Regardless, it’s difficult to find a better prospect than Tyrese Haliburton at this stage. If the Wizards decide to make a run at the playoffs, Haliburton is a high-I.Q. playmaker who can contribute to a good team. If the Wizards decide to rebuild, Haliburton is the kind of unselfish glue piece Washington can comfortably build around.

While it’s fair to doubt Haliburton’s ceiling — his lack of a pull-up jumper is concerning — his feel for the game and skill set will make it hard for him to fail. He’s naturally smooth and rarely gets too hurried. He has the height to peer over defenders at 6-foot-6, and the frame to potentially defend multiple positions.
