Russell Westbrook isn’t the type of point guard that the Philadelphia 76ers need.
The point guard position is a clear need for the Philadelphia 76ers this offseason. While there’s no denying the team needs to improve the position, trading for a player like Russell Westbrook will only make things worse for the franchise.
This isn’t the first time I’ve written about potentially trading for Westbrook. In that article, I outlined the fact the Sixers could in fact trade for the nine-time All-Star, but they really shouldn’t. It’s not that Westbrook’s a bad player, in fact, he’s a former MVP and future Hall of Famer, however, he’s a terrible fit around Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid.
The reason why this is getting brought up again is that Westbrook wants to be traded from the Houston Rockets, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic. It should be noted that the trade market for Westbrook isn’t super hot right either, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
The Sixers need to stay away from Westbrook.
Let’s be clear despite Westbrook arguably being a top-10 point guard of all-time, he’s not the answer at the position for the 76ers. Philly could probably get Westbrook without giving up, but based on Wojnarowski’s tweet, the Sixers shouldn’t be tempted to make a deal.
Former NBCSPhilly report Paul Hudrick had this to say about potentially trading for the point guard.

There’s no denying that Hudrick was harsh in his tweet, but it did hold merit to how bad of an idea it would be for Philly to deal for Westbrook.
As I stated above and in my previously mentioned article, Westbrook is a bad fit around the 76ers two stars. He’s only shot 25.8 percent on 3-pointers this past season and he makes poor decisions at the end of games. He’s not going to improve either of Philly’s current stars, so there’s no logic to adding him.
It seems like the market for Westbrook is cold right now, but that doesn’t mean the Philadelphia 76ers try to trade for him.
