NBA Draft 2020: Big Board 4.0
11. Tyrell Terry, guard, Stanford
Another contender for the “best shooter” label in this year’s draft, Tyrell Terry has skyrocketed up mock drafts since the season ended. With a global health crisis and nothing better to do, it would appear scouts checked back on Terry’s tape and found themselves entranced. Once a vague consideration for Philadelphia in the second round, now he’s probably not getting to the Sixers at 21.
Terry has a slight frame at 6-foot-3 and, even with added muscle, could be prone to defensive mismatches in the NBA. On offense, however, he’s a stupid good shooter. He has picturesque mechanics and needs very little space to comfortably let it fly. He has equal parts confidence and range.
In addition to his 3-point stroke, Terry has real upside as a point guard. He’s smart out of the pick-and-roll, and defenses have to respect his pull-up threat. Terry isn’t the best facilitator in the draft, but his court vision deserves more credit. If he can continue to improve his frame, teams shouldn’t have too many reservations outside the top five or so.
