The Philadelphia 76ers could have some competition for the starting shooting guard role.

Based on the moves made by the club this offseason, it’s clear that Ben Simmons is still the Philadelphia 76ers‘ point guard for this season, but there’s nothing set in stone about the shooting guard position. The rest of the starting position seemed to be locked in place with Simmons as the point guard, Danny Green as the small forward, Tobias Harris as the power forward, and Joel Embiid as the center.

The Sixers have two legit options to start at the spot in newly acquired Seth Curry and Shake Milton. Curry is a journeyman of sorts and has a career averaged of 10.1 points on 44.3 percent shooting from downtown. Milton broke out onto the scene last season but is still a relative inexperience player. He has a career averaged 7.7 points on 40.2 percent shooting on 3-pointers.

There’s not a huge gap between these two players not only in stats but overall skills. Despite both being a combo guard, there are some distinct differences in their respective games. Both can bring out different strengths to the starting five and especially the team’s two All-Stars in Joel Embiid and Simmons.

It’s completely possible that head coach Doc Rivers will start one and end the game with another. However, deciding who starts is the hard question that Rivers must answer before the season begins. Both of these players have pros and cons for Rivers to consider when deciding who’s a better fit in the starting five.
