3 offseason moves to be thankful for: Hiring Daryl Morey

More from The Sixer Sense

The most important move made by the franchise this offseason had nothing to with any player trades or signings, but with who the Sixers hired to lead their front office. Hiring Daryl Morey put the 76ers in a position to do all the other good/great moves they made this offseason.

Before Morey was hired, the team’s front office was in a disarray. Despite being on the job for two whole seasons, Elton Brand was still inexperienced and the front office’s power structure was in question.

Bringing in Morey changes that as he is unquestionably the leader of the group. Morey was one of the league’s top executive prior with the Houston Rockets. He won Executive of the Year in the 2017-18 season and always fielded a competitive team, even when the Rockets were in a rebuild.

It’s pretty clear early on Morey is building a strong contender around Embiid and Simmons. Adding players like Maxey, Green, Seth Curry, and Dwight Howard are going to pay off very quickly for Philly. Those players are going to make things a lot easier for the Sixers star duo as well.

Drafting Maxey, trading away Horford, and hiring Morey are three legitimate moves from this offseason that Philadelphia 76ers fans should be thankful for.
