The Philadelphia 76ers agree to sign undrafted forward Lamine Diane to an Exhibit 10 deal.

Despite the turnover in the Philadelphia 76ers front office, the team hasn’t diverged from its principle of adding talent to their G-League affiliate the Delaware Blue Coats. According to Ian Begley of SNY.tv, the Sixers agreed to an Exhibit 10 contract with Lamine Diane.

An Exhibit 10 is a clause in an NBA contract that allows teams to give a player extra financial incentive to join the team’s G-League roster if they are cut from the NBA team. The 76ers did this last season with players like small forward Haywood Highsmith and big man Christ Koumadje.

What Diane brings to the Sixers and Blue Coats.

Diane won Player of the Year for the Big West Conference in both of his college seasons. His career averages are 25.1 points, 10.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.6 steals, 2.1 blocks, and 3.1 turnovers at Cal State Northridge. He also shot 48.3 percent from the field, 29.1 percent from the 3-point line, and 58.0 from the foul line.

Diani has the tools to be a versatile defender on the NBA level standing at 6-foot-7 and weighing 205 lbs, along with an above 7-foot wingspan, per Noah Levick of NBCSPhilly. However, just based on stats alone, there are some warning signs that come with Diani.

His shooting from deep and the free throw line are two of the biggest concerns surrounding his game. Outside of centers, it’s hard to have a role in the NBA without outside shooting. Then there are the turnover issues as well.

However, if he can get better control of the ball and improve his shooting with the Blue Coats this season (assuming he signs with them) then he has a chance to make an NBA roster in the future.

The upside is there for Diane, so signing him to an Exhibit 10 this offseason is a minimal risk for the Philadelphia 76ers.
