Former Philadelphia 76ers’ new homes 2020-21 season
Orlando Magic
It will be interesting to see if Philly’s number one overall pick from the 2017 NBA Draft will finally add a consistent jump shot this season. With D.J. Augustin gone, point guard Markelle Fultz will have every opportunity to be the Magic’s starting point guard this season. The former top pick spent a season and a half with the Sixers before getting traded.
“Just like in Philly, Robert Covington has been used as an elite defender where ever he has been.”
Like Fultz, Michael Carter-Williams was another former lottery point guard that was discarded by the 76ers after a season and a half into his tenure. He won Rookie of the Year with Philly before getting traded to the Bucks. He went on to play for the Bulls, Hornets, and Rockets before he found a home with the Magic. He should be a backup for either guard position this upcoming season.
Phoenix Suns
Dario Saric spent two in half seasons in Philly after waiting two years to come over and play for the franchise. After primarily being a starter for the Sixers, he’s jumped back and forth as a starter/reserve during his stints with the T-Wolves and Suns. With the emergency of Cameron Johnson, Saric figures to backup up the power forward and center spots this season for Phoenix.
Portland Trail Blazers
Just like in Philly, Robert Covington has been used as an elite defender where ever he has been. After being traded to Minnesota in the Butler trade, Covington was dealt last season to the Rockets. He was traded to the Blazers this offseason where he will start at one of the forward positions, most likely next to Carmelo Anthony.
