Can the Philadelphia 76ers value for Mike Scott on the trade market?

Outside of their own picks, some young talent, and apparently Ben Simmons, the Philadelphia 76ers don’t have much in terms of tradable assets. However, can veteran power forward Mike Scott become a positive trade asset in the right scenario?

To be clear, by himself, Scott has negative trade value. He’s 32 years old and is clearly on the decline. During his Sixers tenure, Scott’s averaged 6.5 points and 3.6 rebounds, while converting 38.2 of his 3-point shots. Besides being a sharpshooter, Scott is a gritty defender. This season, however, he’s only averaging 6.0 points and 2.3 rebounds, while making 33.3 percent of his 3-pointers during three games.

The type of value the Sixers can get for Scott

Small sample size to be sure and there’s a good chance that his shooting will improve as the season continues, so that should help his value a little bit. Considering that Scott is probably the ninth or tenth guy in the rotation, that’s not bad production.

The problem isn’t his production in the role he’s in, it’s how much he’s getting paid. When he was a free agent two offseasons ago, Scott was given a two-year, $9.8 million dollar deal. This year he’s getting paid about $5 million. Based on his production, he should be making a veteran’s minimum deal, but that’s more on general manager Elton Brand than Scott.

The positive about Scott’s slightly bloated contract is if it is paired with a young player and/or draft, it could end up bringing in a much more productive role player. What type of player Philly gets in any Scott trade would be dependent on which other player(s) is/are attached to Scott the potential deal.

Scott has value in that if paired with another young player, any trade that the Philadelphia 76ers make could bring them in because his salary will help the Sixers match salaries much easier.
