Sixers contract value: Significantly underpaid

Tyrese Maxey ($6.7 million underpaid)

Tyrese Maxey, the apple of Sixer fans’ eyes, has been excellent value as a rookie. As the 21st pick in the 2020 draft, Maxey makes about $2.5 million, very low for a legitimate backup point guard. Maxey has been worth about $9.2 million, similar in value to strong backup guard Delon Wright. This contract will become even more of a steal over the next few seasons.

Dwight Howard ($8.5 million underpaid)

Dwight Howard being this valuable is a bit surprising given his limited minutes and high foul rate, but the veteran center has filled in solidly for Embiid. Dwight only makes $2.5 million, a fairly low number for a legit backup center. Kudos to Daryl Morey for snagging Dwight from the Lakers for this cheap.

Seth Curry ($12.4 million underpaid)

Seth Curry has been exactly what the Sixers were missing since J.J. Redick left Philly. Seth was cooking before testing positive for COVID and will be a welcome addition once he returns. Curry makes $7.8 million this season but has played at the level of a $20.2 million player, roughly what Malcolm Brogdon is making this season. Another great move by Morey to get Curry from Dallas.

Shake Milton ($18.5 million underpaid)

Always save the best for last. Shake Milton has outplayed his $1.7 million contract by $18.5 million, by far the most on the team. Out of 331 NBA players who have played at least 75 minutes, Shake has outplayed his contract by the 14th highest amount, mostly behind other studs on rookie deals. To top it off, Shake is signed for another two years after this season. If Milton continues to improve, his value will approach best in the NBA.
