If the Philadelphia 76ers were to sign for Kyle Lowry, would he re-sign?
The Philadelphia 76ers are a player or two away from competing for an NBA title. Recently, I wrote that the Sixers should inquire about All-Star point guard Kyle Lowry and three reasons why the franchise should trade for him.
However, I didn’t really dissect one of the bigger issues surrounding the Toronto Raptors’ point guard. That is of course Lowry’s pending free agency. Lowry is in the last year of his contract that is worth $30 million.
There’s plenty of reasons for Lowry to re-sign with the Sixers.
In my first article covering the subject of acquiring Lowry, I wrote a sentence on why he would re-sign with the 76ers.
"“…he grew up in Philadelphia so there’s a good chance the franchise can get him to re-sign.”"
While that is certainly true, it’s not a great explanation of that reasoning or why the team’s roster should appeal to the 34-year-old point guard.

The appeal of ending his career in the city he grew up in would certainly be a lure for the veteran. Especially if the team is a contender and he could help their playoff chances. That’s exactly what Philadelphia can provide for Lowry.
Joel Embiid is the clear cut best player on the Sixers. Lowry is arguably the best player in Toronto, with Pascal Siakam and Fred VanVleet also being in the running for that title. Having a guy like Embiid will help make life easier for Lowry. Ben Simmons can also take the playmaking burden from Lowry in a similar way that VanVleet does.
The Philadelphia 76ers have the players to help Lowry win in a major way at the end of his prime and potentially ending his career with his hometown are two very compelling reasons for him to re-sign with the Sixers if they trade for him.
