There were changes for two rookies this past week, but surprisingly enough the rookie who has had the best week is the one not currently with the Philadelphia 76ers. That player is actually with the Delaware Blue Coats in the Orlando bubble.

21st pick, 2020 draft

I recently wrote about how Tyrese Maxey could step up in the place of the injured Shake Milton. Sadly, two games into Milton’s absence and Maxey struggled. He’s gone 4-14 from the field, which is what he’s shot from the field this past week as he didn’t play against the Sacramento Kings. Maxey has to turn it around soon if he wants a shot of playing once Milton returns to the lineup.

Season averages: 8.7 points, 2.0 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 0.6 steals, 0.1 blocks, 0.7 turnovers, and 1.2 fouls. Shooting 45.5 percent on field goals, 28.8 percent on 3-pointers, and 87.0 on free throws.

49th pick, 2020 draft

Isaiah Joe only played two minutes in one game this past week. He finished with three points and one rebound, while making his one 3-point attempt. Solid outing in limited minutes, but sadly that seems to be the norm for the second round pick as long as the team’s healthy.

Season averages: 5.5 points, 1.3 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 0.3 steals, 0.3 blocks, 0.4 turnovers, and 1.4 fouls. Shooting 40.6 percent on field goals, 40.4 percent on 3-pointers, and 100.0 on free throws.

58th pick, 2020 draft

As the title has insinuated, Paul Reed has played very well in his first two G-League games for the Delaware Blue Coats. He’s dominating both sides of the ball and showed growth between his first and second outings. The only areas of weakness for the rookie is turnovers and fouls, but that’s to be expected out of a first year player. It should be noted that for the Blue Coats, Reed is playing center and not power forward like he was for the Sixers.

G-League season averages: 21.5 points, 11.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.5 steals, 1.0 blocks, 2.5 turnovers, and 4.5 fouls. Shooting 64.3 percent on field goals, 40.0 percent on 3-pointers, and 80.0 on free throws.

Reed is dominating for the Philadelphia 76ers’ G-League affiliate, while both Maxey and Joe are either struggling in their role or getting minutes this past week.
