Sixers podcast: Road win vs. Toronto | All-Star selections | Simmons DPOY?
By Uriah Young
In this episode of The Sixer Sense Podcast, Lucas Johnson and Christopher Kline dive into some Sixers talk and bring fresh perspectives on a range of relevant topics. They start things out with the win over Toronto on Tuesday night.
The pod brings up the hot hand of Furkan Korkmaz, who redeemed himself from some recent poor performances. Also, the discussion opens up to the off night that Joel Embiid had, and how Nick Nurse seems to have Embiid’s number. They also talk about whether or not the Sixers could defeat the Raptors in a playoff series.
The next transition leads us to the recent news of Ben Simmons becoming an All-Star for a third straight season. While he was chosen to be a reserve, his teammate — Tobias Harris — was left off the All-Star roster. The pod discusses why Simmons made it over Harris, and what Harris would have to do to get over the hump and make his first All-Star team.
Getting overlooked is something Harris was quoted in an admission during an interview with The Athletic. Lucas and Chris discuss aspects of the his interview, and if Tobias Harris deserves to be considered a third star in Philly. Sticking with Harris, the pod goes over another quote, this one from Shaquille O’Neal, where he gives a huge compliment to Harris on the John Kincade show from 97.5 The Fanatic.
Ben Simmons is an All-Star. Does he also give the Sixers a Defensive Player of the Year candidate?
The podcast debates who deserves the Defensive Player of the Year Award. Ben Simmons is currently running in second on NBA.com, trailing only Rudy Gobert. Who on the pod thinks Simmons deserves it, and who thinks Gobert deserves it? Listen to find out.
Lastly, a fun fact of the week about the 76ers is brought up and discussed in depth.
