Sixers bolster depth in Victor Oladipo trade

SIXERS RECEIVE: Kelly Oubre Jr., Kevon Looney, Sterling Brown

ROCKETS RECEIVE: Kent Bazemore, Marquese Chriss, Tony Bradley, Terrance Ferguson, 2021 Sixers first-round pick (lottery protected), 2022 Warriors first-round pick (lottery protected)

WARRIORS RECEIVE: Victor Oladipo, Mike Scott, Vincent Poirier

In this edition of Get The Warriors Another All-Star, the Sixers help Golden State land Victor Oladipo. While there’s an argument to be made that Philadelphia should pursue Oladipo, there’s risk in acquiring a past-prime star who may not re-sign. This trade keeps Oladipo in the West and, again, bolsters the Sixers’ second unit.

For a price similar to the Vucevic trade, the Sixers land Kelly Oubre and two other rotation-level pieces. Kevon Looney has been a vital contributor to Golden State in the past, and could even usurp Dwight Howard as the prime backup center in Philadelphia. Sterling Brown is the Sixer who never was — a second-round pick the Sixers traded in the Colangelo days who could serve as forward depth down the stretch.

The Warriors continue to go all-out in pursuing a championship this season and, more realistically, next season. Oladipo may have his eyes on Miami, but it’s not a done deal and there is undeniable appeal in sticking around the Bay long-term. The Warriors would have a half season to pitch him on Steph, Klay, and Draymond, while giving up only Oubre (who Oladipo would replace in the rotation), a protected pick, and fringe pieces.

For Houston, this trade further facilitates the oncoming rebuild. The Rockets have lost 20 straight and have very little leverage given Oladipo’s unambiguous desire to leave next offseason. To get two first-round picks — even lottery protected — is a home run.
