Sixers podcast: Revenge on Cavs | Ben Simmons’ struggles
By Uriah Young
With Joel Embiid still out, the Sixers had to finish the road trip, relying heavily on their bench. Lucas Johnson and Christopher Kline analyze the victory against the Cavs and the loss to the Nuggets.
In the Cleveland game, the 76ers went into Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse and showed the Cavs why they are not on the same level. Without Joel Embiid, the Sixers got a huge lift from Shake Milton. We laud his performance and the sharp shooting from Seth Curry to help Philly avenge the two losses versus the Cavs earlier this season.
Then, we dive into the Denver game, where the 76ers could have used Embiid to go against Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray. We dissect the putrid performance by the Sixers, and we debate whether or not Ben Simmons is simply in a slump or if his motivation to elevate his game depends on external factors.
Ben Simmons has been M.I.A. since the All-Star break, and J.J. Redick got traded. This and more Sixers news is discussed on this week’s episode of the podcast.
Once we finish discussing the inconsistent play of Simmons, we turn our attention to the recent quote from former Sixer J.J. Redick. After leaving the Sixers and signing with New Orleans, Redick got the paycheck he desired and fit within the Pelicans’ offense. As time passed, New Orleans and Redick felt a split was best for both parties. We discuss whether he was given a raw deal after being promised a buyout, only to get traded instead. We also fathom the idea that he could reunite with the Sixers somehow.
Finally, Lucas and Chris have a dialogue about the concern Sixers fans have about the backup big man minutes. After Dwight Howard, the center depth is nonexistent. We discuss who the 76ers could bring in to strengthen their front court.
