3 buyout free agent options: Austin Rivers

More from The Sixer Sense

Speaking of players who played for Morey in Houston, there is a guard who is a free agent who can be a spark plug off the bench for the franchise. That would be the son of Sixers’ head coach Doc Rivers, Austin Rivers.

For his career, Rivers has averaged 9.1 points and 2.3 assists, while converting 34.9 percent of his 3-pointers. Rivers is a score first combo guard that can go off for 15-20 points on any given night. He’s not a strong defender but has improved playing off the ball in recent seasons.

While he’s the best overall player on this list, there are two major issues to bringing him in. The Sixers have some quality depth at the guard position with the likes of George Hill, Shake Milton, and Matisse Thybulle. Rivers would arguably be the fourth guard coming off the bench, which makes the second reason even a bigger deal.

His dad is Doc Rivers who is the head coach of this squad. When the two were together with the Los Angeles Clippers, chemistry issues arose and I’ve already written about why letting the two reunite would be a bad idea.

Still, there’s no denying that the Sixers need more shot creators on the roster and he’s certainly worth a look now that they have an open roster spot.

Next. Hill’s prolonged recovery is bad for chemistry. dark

Now that the Philadelphia 76ers have an open roster spot, the franchise has their options moving forward in how they can addresses needs.
