Sixers storyline to watch: The 11th man

Much to the chagrin of some, Doc Rivers said he is comfortable going 11 deep in the playoffs. While that statement has been undoubtedly taken out of context by some, Rivers is essentially saying he feels comfortable using Tyrese Maxey as a situational spark-plug if the offense needs a jump. He will not regularly use 11 players.

That being said, the Sixers should have two more opportunities to spin the tires on Maxey before the playoffs start. The rookie has played exceptionally well of late and deserves all the credit (and playing time) laid upon him.

Ideally, the Sixers handle business with Orlando without exerting the core pieces too much. If that is indeed the case, Maxey should get extra burn late in games. His quickness is unique on this roster, and his ability to dribble penetrate and put pressure on the defense is a real boost to the Sixers.

If Maxey can put together another statement game or two to end the season, then it only becomes more likely that he cracks a playoff game or two. If someone in the second unit is out of commission, or a player simply struggles, Maxey is next in line. Expect to hear from the rookie again before the final buzzer sounds on the regular season.
