The Sixer Sense Podcast is handing out awards this week for players who performed at the highest level this season. Lucas Johnson and Christopher Kline offer plenty of insight on why certain players should earn superior honors among their peers.

The NBA’s regular season is over. Who on the Sixers deserves recognition, and who should win the league-wide awards race?

We start with the Sixers‘ honors first. We choose players from the 76ers roster who we felt deserved the following awards: Most Improved Player, Biggest Surprise Player, Best Defender, Most Clutch, and Best Shooter. We did not offer an MVP award for the Sixers this season because we all knew the obvious — Joel Embiid is the best and most important player for Philadelphia by a huge margin. From there, we head into the best players in the entire league.

Even with a COVID-impacted season, in which there were a wacky number of strange scenarios and bizarre team lineups, the NBA was as entertaining as ever. With so many stars who dazzled us night in and night out, it was difficult for Lucas and Chris to whittle down the top notch NBA players who earned the highest accolades.

We began with the question of who made the NBA All-Rookie teams. With young stars like LaMelo Ball and Anthony Edwards, it was simple enough to start with those two. Who else made the cut though? After that discussion, we went into who made the NBA All-Defensive teams? We can all lock in Ben Simmons and Rudy Gobert, but who else made either team? Did any of us include Matisse Thybulle?

The following topic revolves around who made the All-NBA teams. There are three teams to break down, and with dozens of stars to choose from, this made our selection not an easy task. Did Joel Embiid make our list despite the highly favorable Nikola Jokic claimed by so many experts as the top center?

Individual NBA awards are handed out and discussed in detail. We award players for the following categories: Rookie of the Year, Most Improved Player, Coach of the Year, Sixth Man of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, and Most Valuable Player.

Lastly, as a nod to the amazing 76ers fans across the world, we posted a reflective question on social media that we were excited to share and discuss. We wanted to know what you enjoyed most about this season, and the responses were pleasantly received. Who loved the play of Joel Embiid and the emergence of Tyrese Maxey? Who was impressed with the infectious, positive attitude of Dwight Howard and the breakout defensive season of Matisse Thybulle? We talk about it and so much more on this segment of our social media question of the week.
