Ranking every player on the Sixers roster — 5. Seth Curry

One of Daryl Morey’s first moves in Philadelphia was to swap Josh Richardson for Seth Curry, a trade that has benefited the Sixers (and not-so-benefited the Mavericks). Curry is one of the most efficient shooters in NBA history. This season, he hit 45.0 percent of his 4.9 attempts per game from deep. That is useful on a team with a notorious need for spacing.

Curry is not without flaws — he should probably shoot more frequently than he already does — but his remarkable competence from behind the 3-point line makes it hard to knock him far down this list. He has been a steady option in the starting five all season, not only because of his shooting, but also because of his playmaking chops.

He’s not a point guard, but Curry can freelance and create off the dribble when needed. He’s a smart decision-maker who understands his limitations and puts teammates in a position to succeed. The Sixers have done an excellent job of leveraging his shooting gravity to generate looks for Embiid, Simmons, and company.

Even the defense has been a pleasant surprise. Curry fights hard and can defend both guard spots competently. He doesn’t explode as often as some would like, and he’s prone to fading in and out of games, but Curry is rarely bad. He’s a constant threat who defenses have no choice but to pay attention to.
