Ranking every player on the Sixers roster — 15. Gary Clark

The Sixers made one last move in the week leading up to the playoffs — they waived Mason Jones and signed Gary Clark to a two-way contract, making his eligible for the 2021 postseason. Given his lack of time with the franchise, Clark is nowhere near the playoff rotation. He is, however, a player to watch ahead of next season.

The 26-year-old Clark has spent three seasons in the NBA. He got his start as a rookie in Houston, where he played 51 games under the laser-focused eye of Daryl Morey. This season, he spent 3q games with Orlando, where he averaged 18.2 minutes per game. He joined suddenly and randomly, but Clark is a player who has proven he can play — and produce — in the NBA.

A solid spot-up shooter and versatile defender at 6-foot-6, Clark fits the Sixers well. He is a capable stretch four who can handle different assignments on both sides of the ball. He doesn’t need the basketball in his hands to impact the game, and his slightly advanced age fits the Sixers’ win-now timeline.

Frankly, it’s surprising Clark was unsigned this late into the season when the likes of OKC, Houston, and Orlando (who cut him) are tanking into oblivion. That said, Clark has real NBA skills and should not be viewed as a throwaway signing. Daryl Morey doesn’t make moves just to make moves. Keep your eye on Clark’s future.
