Sixers: Overpaid or Underpaid, end of season edition
Sixers contract value: Slightly underpaid
Isaiah Joe ($1.3 million underpaid)
Isaiah Joe has one of the smallest salaries in the NBA at $898,000 this season. Joe had his ups-and-downs but has exceeded his second-round value already. If Joe continues to develop his game around his jumper he should become a rotation piece. This contract could look like a huge steal over the next few seasons.
Danny Green ($1.8 million underpaid)
Danny Green making $15.4 million and still being underpaid shows how reliable he has been this season. Green is tied for first in games played on the Sixers this season and is second in total minutes played, behind only Tobias Harris. By shooting 40.5 percent from 3 and playing steady defense, Green has been a perfect addition to the Sixers this season. Bringing back Green on a similar or cheaper deal should be a no-brainer for the Sixers next season.
Joel Embiid ($3.3 million underpaid)
Joel Embiid is underpaid this season despite the following:
- Embiid makes $29.5 this season, the 25th highest in the NBA.
- Embiid has only played 51 games and 1585 minutes this season.
Basically, Embiid has been the best player in the NBA on a per-minute basis and has been worth a max contract despite missing significant time. By improving his scoring and efficiency to career highs, Embiid has vaulted himself into the MVP conversation this season.
Tyrese Maxey ($4.6 million underpaid)
Tyrese Maxey is making $2.5 million this season but has played like a $6.9 million player. Had Maxey been on a rebuilding team, his minutes and wins would be even higher. With the Sixers in win-now mode, Maxey had to earn every minute this season, limiting his on-court contributions. The Sixers have Maxey under contract at a cheap number for the next three seasons, so if he continues to develop as he did throughout the season, this contract will be one of the best in the NBA.
