3 free agents targets on first round opponent Wizards: Ish Smith
Third times is a charm. That might be the case with Ish Smith. When he was young and still trying to establish himself as a quality backup point guard, Smith had two separate stints with the rebuilding Philadelphia 76ers.
During Philly’s rebuild coined “The Process”, Smith was one of the few stabilizing faces at the point guard position on two separate occasions. After his second stint with the Sixers, he found stability with both the Detroit Pistons and then the Wizards.
Smith is about to enter the twilight of his career at 32 years old and having him as a savvy third/fourth string point guard on the roster would be ideal for this 76ers’ team. He pushes the ball in transition just like Ben Simmons and while he’s not a good outside shooter, he can do it which would good for the Sixers.
In Game 1, Smith didn’t have a great night shooting the ball but did have six points, three assists, and no turnovers, those stats are close to his season averages. If he could provide that level of production and if he signs with Philly for a minimum contract for example, then he would worth bringing back a third time.
