Bring out the brooms: Sixers going for first-round sweep
The Philadelphia 76ers routed the Washington Wizards Saturday night 132-103. Bring out the brooms as the Sixers have now cruised through their first three games against the nation’s capital representatives, and should finish the job Monday night.
Russell Westbrook was what you’d expect, 26 points 12 rebounds 10 assists. A triple-double machine, but it wasn’t enough as Danny Green and Seth Curry were the X-factors in this one, both shooting efficiently giving the squad 15 points each. Green was 5-for-9 from beyond the arc; Seth 3-for-6.
The shooters shot in this one tonight. Joel Hans Embiid is just a broken record… he’s the definition of greatness. 36 points for the big fella and a play to the crowd as he tells Washington fans Let me hear ya!
Let’s be realistic, we knew this was going to happen. A week off would be just what this team needs if they are to complete the sweep and await their next opponent. The noise in Philly is you’d rather play Trae Young’s Hawks because the Knicks are more physical. Expect the same in the next series as far as a sweep. We are just awaiting the opponent in the Eastern Conference Finals and crossing our fingers we stay at full strength and take care of business in the first two rounds.
Tyrese Maxey was 2-for-4 in 11 minutes tonight and has proven he deserves all the time in the world. Whatever the matchup in round two is. Treat these games as a tryout for the “final four,” as the only DNP tonight was Anthony Tolliver, who got a run Wednesday. Mike Scott and Shake Milton as of now clearly look to be out of the rotation as Furkan Korkmaz looks to be shooting his way out of it as well. George HIll, Tyrese Maxey, Matisse Thybulle, Tobias Harris, Dwight Howard is my favorite second unit group thus far.
Play that song! Clap your hands! And most importantly get out your brooms the sweep happens Monday night.
