Collin Sexton – Sixers trade scenario #1
If the Sixers were to propose an offer without Ben Simmons, this would seem a reasonable place to start. Sexton’s trade value is hard to gauge. His extension will cost a lot of money, and the range of potential outcomes (both good and bad) is vast. It’s also clear the Cavs put more stock in Darius Garland as a playmaking vessel than Sexton.
In the end, it may require more from Philadelphia’s end to make this work. That said, Curry is one of the best shooters in the NBA and is coming off a red-hot postseason run. He averaged 21.0 points on 59.6 percent shooting from deep in the Atlanta series. That kind of performance tends to get you noticed.
Curry would give Cleveland another floor-spacer around Garland and, presumably, the incoming Evan Mobley, while the two first-round picks — while not great picks — will contribute to depth over time. Again, Cleveland will not have to dump Sexton, but the extension does dock his value. The Sixers would make this deal knowing Sexton is due somewhere in the $20-30 million range next summer, with Joel Embiid, Tobias Harris, and Ben Simmons already eating up cap space.
Early reports do not seem to indicate Philly ($) as a prime landing spot for Sexton, so it could be that other teams — teams who view Sexton more as a cornerstone than a complementary piece — are willing to compile offers that would blow this out of the water.
