Sixers: Gauging Ben Simmons’ true trade value
It’s been about a week since The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported that the Philadelphia 76ers have opened up trade discussions regarding Ben Simmons. Truth be told, most fans and analysts already knew this was coming following the fallout from the Sixers’ Game 7 loss to the Hawks. What people can’t seem to agree on is what compensation it would take for the three-time All-Star to get dealt.
The Kings’ reported package they are “probably” willing to offer is Marvin Bagley, Buddy Hield, and 1-2 first-round draft picks. An Indiana rumor involved Malcolm Brogdon and a first-round pick. CJ McCollum has been the focus of a potential trade that many league execs thinks makes sense on paper. The elephant in the room is of course a potential scenario where Portland’s Damian Lillard requests a trade.
The Ben Simmons trade negotiations are in full swing. What kind of offers can the Sixers expect?
Between now and the offseason really hitting its full stride in August, I’m sure we’ll see plenty of other hypotheticals from other teams. Regardless, the Simmons trades seem to fall into three general categories from what we understand now. For the purposes of this discussion, I’ll call the trades “buying low”, “swapping for fit”, and “blockbuster deal”. All three give us some insight into how the league sees Simmons.
