2021 NBA Mock Draft — 3. Evan Mobley, Cleveland Cavaliers
The Cavs have a decision to make about Jarrett Allen’s next contract, but that should not — and almost certainly will not — dissuade them from taking Evan Mobley, who is the best possible outcome here. The 7-foot Mobley is one of the most well-rounded center prospects we’ve seen, and he immediately gives Cleveland a defensive anchor that has long been absent.
Mobley is skilled enough to play next to Allen, should Cleveland deem that the best path forward. The Cavs could also let him walk if the price tag exceeds a certain point. Either way, Mobley immediately becomes the best prospect on that roster, forming a dangerous two-pronged attack with Darius Garland. Mobley also gives Cleveland time to further deliberate Collin Sexton’s future, whereas Jalen Green would immediately render Sexton redundant.
Cleveland is in no position to pass on the best prospect, and it just so happens that the best prospect is also a pretty great fit. Mobley does so many things well — he can roll or pop, score facing up, playmake from the elbow, dance around defenders in the post. He would be an immediate asset on both offense and defense, which is rare for rookie big men.
