5 free agents to stay away from: Austin Rivers

In terms of skill and need, Austin Rivers would fill a need the Philadelphia 76ers have. Rivers can be a scoring hub off the bench. Between the Knicks and Denver Nuggets, he averaged 7.9 points in 23.5 minutes per game last year.

He had a solid stint with the Houston Rockets when Morey was the general manager there. He proved to a be nice complementary scorer off the bench with James Harden being the primary star. Rivers is the type of player who could have a 20-point game any given night, which is something Philly needs

He also had the best scoring stretch of his career when he was on the Los Angeles Clippers when Doc Rivers was the head coach. Doc Rivers is the current head coach of the Sixers and is Austin Rivers’ father. The family dynamic is the main reason why the Austin Rivers shouldn’t be on the 76ers’ radar.

When the two Rivers were on the Clippers, there were chemistry issues with that club. Considering that tensions are already high with Ben Simmons’ poor playoff performance and with him being rumored on the trade block, bringing in someone who could cause even more strife is a bad idea. A Rivers reunion is the last thing that Philly needs.
