5 shooting guard free agent options in 2021: Sterling Brown
After struggling to find a role with the Milwaukee Bucks, Sterling Brown hand his best season with the Houston Rockets this past year. Adding a player at 25 years old who is still developing into could be a buy low on a long-term role player.
This past season, he averaged 8.2 points and 4.4 rebounds, while shooting 42.3 from downtown. At his age and those stats, he’d usually cost more than the mid-level exception, however, the Philadelphia 76ers might be able to the 6-foot-5 shooting for that deal.
He did this on literally one of the worse teams in the NBA last year, so the question becomes can he do this on a winning team? Only time will tell but if he takes a minimum deal or signs the mid-exception to play for a contender and plays well next season, then he could be in line for a major payday next summer.
Brown’s not a bad defender and if his shooting holds up, then like Ellington, Brown could be in line for a big role on the Sixers. However, because he’s a young player, he may not have a big role immediately to begin the season.
