5 power forwards free agent options: Nicolas Batum

Before the start of last season, Nicolas Batum was on one of the worst contracts in the NBA and he didn’t appear to have anything left in the tank. However, after getting bought out by the Charlotte Hornets in the offseason and then contributing to the Los Angeles Clippers’ deep playoff run that all changed.

Despite being 6-foot-8, Batum started his career as a perimeter player. He’s played both shooting guard and small forward in the past and only made the transition to power forward this past season due to injuries zapping his athleticism. However, those perimeter skills still make him a tough matchup on offense, and his ability to be a playmaker at the four spot is great for any contender.

On top of his offensive versatility, he’s equally as versatile on the defensive end as well. He can defend shooting guard, small forwards, and power forwards. He’s not a super athlete, but he’s smart enough to make up for it.

If the 32-year-old decides to leave Los Angeles, then the Philadelphia 76ers should be in play to sign the veteran forward. He can be had on a minimum contract and his role as a backup power forward would help improve the depth at that spot.
