Sixers’ possible Danny Green sign-and-trade with Celtics

The Celtics would benefit quite a bit from Danny Green’s 3-point stroke and off-ball prowess. He would play seamlessly off of Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Al Horford, hitting spot-up 3s, making well-timed cuts, and handling manageable defensive assignments.

For the Sixers, the ideal return is Marcus Smart, who the Celtics are plainly willing to trade. That said, it’s doubtful Green is the market price for Smart, who is a better and more impactful player, not to mention a younger player. Even if the Celtics view Green as a significant fit upgrade, you can bet Smart is off the table.

A much more reasonable target would be Romeo Langford, a former lottery pick who was forced into some playoff minutes last season. He’s still a bit raw, but Langford is a toolsy 6-foot-5 wing who can play both sides of the ball. In four postseason games, he averaged 9.0 points and 2.5 rebounds in 27.2 minutes per game. He hit 35.3 percent of his 3s in the Brooklyn series too, which came after only 18 regular season appearances.

Langford might not even play in Philadelphia, so this is a clear step down from a return like Pat Connaughton. That said, getting a young two-way wing with lottery pedigree beats out nothing every day of the week. Another name to watch is Kris Dunn, who just arrived in Boston via trade.
