Sixers’ possible Danny Green sign-and-trade with Bulls

The Bulls have vaulted into playoff contention after signing Lonzo Ball and DeMar DeRozan in free agency. Green would be a fitting addition to the new-look starting five, with the quick-trigger shooting and veteran savvy needed to complement Chicago’s impressive playmaking core.

Exceedingly likely in this spot is (again) a trade exception or draft picks. The Bulls don’t have a ton of trade-worthy assets on the roster right now. Lauri Markkanen is still a free agent, and a double sign-and-trade could work, but Markkanen’s market exceeds that of Danny Green. He’s also not a clean fit.

Ultimately, if the Sixers were to seek a player in return, the only sensible name is Troy Brown. The 22-year-old was the 15th pick in the 2018 draft, and still has some intrigue tied to his development. That said, he was mostly unexceptional last season. In Chicago, he averaged only 5.5 points and 3.4 rebounds in 18.2 minutes per game across 13 appearances. He is not a rotation piece in Philadelphia.

Another name to watch is Denzel Valentine, who is also a free agent and could complete a double sign-and-trade. He’s more established than Brown and was part of Chicago’s rotation last season, but even so, to go from Green to Valentine is a deflating downgrade. The Sixers don’t have a ton of appealing outcomes if Green decides to walk.
