What to watch for in Sixers’ Summer League: The wild cards
Not every notable player on the Sixers’ Summer League roster was drafted. For example, both of Philadelphia’s current two-way contract recipients — Aaron Henry and Rayjon Tucker — went undrafted. Tucker was with the team for most of last season. Henry is a rookie out of Michigan State, and formerly one of the best perimeter defenders in college basketball.
Another name to watch is Frank Mason III, who has played 103 games across four seasons in the NBA. He is fighting for his career, and is by far the most “experienced” player on the roster. At 5-foot-11, he’s a career underdog, but still a player to watch as the Sixers look to round out the back end of the roster.
Braxton Key and Charles Matthew were both G-League players last season, now looking to take the next step. Key played for the Sixers’ affiliate in Delaware. For the players who don’t make the 15-man roster in Philly, a spot in Delaware is also a possibility. The Summer League is about more than just the NBA.
My favorite name to watch, however, is Daishen Nix, who spent last season with the G-League Ignite. He was predictably buried under the shadows of Jalen Green and Jonathan Kuminga, but he’s a fascinating NBA prospect — one who should’ve been drafted, in this writer’s opinion. He’s a great downhill scorer and facilitator who could learn a lot from Tyrese Maxey.
