The Sixers opened up the 2021 Summer League with a bang, running roughshod over a talent-deprived Mavericks roster. Tyrese Maxey and Isaiah Joe flashed impressive shot-making chops, while Paul Reed and Filip Petrušev were determined to block every shot within arms-length of the paint.

While Philadelphia’s Summer League features a number of notable draft picks and NBA players, there are also interesting prospects on the fringe — prospects who could show up in training camp down the line.

Let’s dive into three players in Vegas who are worthy of a camp invite.

Potential camp invites on the Summer Sixers: Braxton Key

Braxton Key played three games with the Sixers’ G-League affiliate in Delaware last season, averaging 10.7 points and 5.7 rebounds in 16.4 minutes per game. Before that, he spent four years in college (two at Alabama, two at Virginia), winning an NCAA championship in 2019.

While Key’s numbers don’t pop, he’s a physical 6-foot-8 forward with intriguing defensive tools. In Monday’s shellacking of Dallas, Key was the Sixers’ main frontcourt reserve behind Petrušev and Reed. That could change once Charles Bassey’s contract situation gets sorted out, but Key played more minutes than both Rayjon Tucker and Aaron Henry, who are already on the big-league roster.

Key was highly productive against Dallas, tallying 11 points, three rebounds, two steals, and a block, making his presence felt on both ends. Philadelphia has a fair amount of young frontcourt depth, but Key is at least worth consideration on a camp deal. Perhaps on an Exhibit 10, which would facilitate his return to Delaware next season.
