Re-drafting the 2020 NBA Draft — 29. Isaiah Joe, Toronto Raptors
Isaiah Joe is a shooter’s shooter. The guy will fill it up at every possible opportunity. He attempted over 10 triples per game at Arkansas, and carried similar per-minute volume over to the NBA last season. He was buried in the Sixers’ rotation, but he’s probably Desmond Bane’s most formidable challenger for the title of “best shooter from the 2020 NBA Draft.”
The Raptors get Joe, who is an immediate complement to just about every NBA roster. He was a shockingly good team defender in limited minutes as a rookie, and has looked good in an expanded role this Summer League go-around. The Raptors have some very interesting go-to playmakers on the roster in Fred VanVleet, Pascal Siakam, and Scottie Barnes. Joe can space the floor and make quick decisions with the ball (normally a shot).
Toronto’s player development program has also been extremely fruitful in recent years. If any team is going to get the most out of Joe’s auxiliary skills, it’s the Raptors. At worst, he’s an absolute gunslinger who will force the defense to pay him attention.
