Re-drafting the 2020 NBA Draft — 4. Patrick Williams, Chicago Bulls
Patrick Williams’ rookie season was obscured by a deep frontcourt in Chicago, but he showed more than enough for Chicago to be confident in its investment. At 6-foot-7, Williams remains a tantalizing athlete, with broad shoulders, tree-trunk legs, and real shot creation upside — especially in smaller lineups against slow-footed fours.
Williams was efficient in his time on the floor, which is hardly ever the case for 19-year-old rookies. He shot 48.3 percent from the field and 39.1 percent from deep, scoring at all three levels and fitting nicely into Chicago’s multi-layered offense. With more playmaking firepower on the roster next season, Williams will need to carve out his role early. Expect him to thrive in such a bountiful offensive ecosystem.
The Bulls’ current roster is pretty well balanced, with Williams slotting in comfortably at the starting power forward. There are other names worthy of consideration here, but if you’re the Bulls, why not stick with your guns? Williams has as high a ceiling as any player left on the board.
