Re-drafting the 2020 NBA Draft — 7. Saddiq Bey, Detroit Pistons
The Pistons also stick with a guy they drafted, only Saddiq Bey was originally the 19th pick, not the seventh pick. One could argue Bey, so far, has been the biggest steal of the first round. Considered a mostly known entity coming out of Villanova, the rangy 6-foot-8 wing has shown a higher ceiling than initially anticipated, while also making an immediate impact as a rookie.
Bey shot 38.0 percent from deep on 6.6 attempts per game. He is one of the draft’s best volume shooters, with the size and defensive versatility to also become one of its best overall defenders. If Bey can continue to diversify his scoring off the dribble, as he has done in Summer League, he could emerge as a true cornerstone of Detroit’s rebuild.
As a rookie, Bey started in 57 of 70 games for the Pistons, averaging 12.2 points and 4.5 rebounds in 27.3 minutes per contest. He provides important lineup flexibility, and should look right at home playing off of Cade Cunningham and Killian Hayes for the foreseeable future.
