Are the Philadelphia 76ers too young to contend for an NBA title?

There’s one major difference between the Philadelphia 76ers and the rest of the Eastern Conference contenders. The Sixers are an extremely young roster compared to their Eastern conference contemporaries.

Those counterparts include the Milwaukee Bucks, Brooklyn Nets, and arguably the Miami Heat. The Bucks have legit veterans surrounding their superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, two out of three “Big Three” on the Nets are over 30 years old, and the Heat just got older with the two key additions of Kyle Lowry and P.J. Tucker.

The 76ers have more youth than experience when it comes to their contributing rotational players this season. That might hurt Philly when it comes to a postseason run this upcoming season.

The Philadelphia 76ers might be too young to make a legit run.

More from The Sixer Sense

Joel Embiid is in his prime at 27-years-old and Tobias Harris is also in his prime at 29-years-old as well, so there are no worries there. Ben Simmons doesn’t figure to be a part of the long-term future, so he being 25-year-old doesn’t hold much weight either.

However, looking at role players, there are only four veteran players over the age of 25-years old. Seth Curry and Danny Green are the elder statesmen on the roster being the only two players being 30 years old or older. Andre Drummond and Georges Niang are also in their primes at 28-years-old each.

The rest of the main rotational players are pretty young at this point. Tyrese Maxey is only entering his second season and he figures to be the primary scorer coming off the bench at 20-years-old. Despite entering his fifth season, Furkan Korkmaz is still only 24-years-old. Matisse Thybulle made the All-Defensive team last year but he’s also 24-years-old entering his third season.

Guys like Shake Milton, Paul Reed, and Isaiah Joe also figure to be in line for minutes as well and all are under the age of 25-years old as well. This is great for the team’s future, but not so good for their current place of contention.

In short, the Philadelphia 76ers are young and that might hurt them in a deep playoff run this upcoming season.
