On this episode of the Sixer Sense Podcast, to help us emphasize a disparity in fan treatment, we bring in PistonPowered site expert Stuart London. He lends his perspective to Lucas Johnson and Christopher Kline on how the fans of Detroit are treated differently than Sixers fans in the eyes of sports media.
The perfect example to use when comparing and contrasting the two sports towns is the Netflix series that has been on every basketball fan’s radar this summer — Untold: The Malice at the Palace. The trio discuss aspects of the situation that led to the suspensions of multiple NBA players and the arrests of Detroit fans. The podcast analyzes the repercussions of that infamous night, and how the reputation of Philadelphia fans relates to that of Detroit fans.
After talk about the Malice at the Palace is wrapped up, Lucas, Christopher, and Stuart begin elaborating on the current state of the 76ers compared to the young Detroit Pistons team. They touch on players drafted the past two seasons and how they match up in terms of potential.
The podcast then looks at some transactions that connect the two franchises. From Jahlil Okafor and Jermani Grant, to Tobias Harris and Tyrese Maxey, plenty of trades have been made where these players somehow made their way to Detroit or Philadelphia during the course of the last five years.
The next topic revolves around the controversial firing of 76ers employees last week. Why would such a valuable franchise worth hundreds of millions of dollars need to release over a dozen workers when the pandemic is still impacting the economy? We answer this question and even more regarding this hot issue.
The social media question of the week asks Sixers fans whether or not Paul Reed will get out the mud and get quality paying time this season.
