Ben Simmons trade roundtable: Sixers, Blazers, Kings blockbuster

PROPOSED BY: LUCAS JOHNSON

Sixers also receive: 2022 first-round pick (SAC), 2023 first-round pick swap (POR)

Blazers also receive: 2024 first-round pick (SAC), 2024 second-round pick (POR), 2025 second-round pick (POR)

It appears the markets for both Damian Lillard and Bradley Beal are dried up at the moment. The Philadelphia 76ers might want to direct their attention elsewhere if they want to trade Ben Simmons before the start of the regular season.

With that in mind, there’s one trade that could help the Sixers get close to equal value for an All-NBA defender without getting a superstar in return.

The Sixers get a bordline All-Star talent in CJ McCollum, who is in his prime. Tyrese Haliburton appears to be the third best player from a loaded 2020 NBA Draft. They also get the Kings’ 2022 first-round pick and the rights to swap in 2023, which they probably will.

The Sacramento Kings get an All-Star caliber player to pair next to De’Aaron Fox and Simmons fixes a lot of the defensive problems they currently have. Giving up three first-round picks, two seconds, plus some of their young core is worth it for a player of Simmons’ caliber.

For the Portland Trail Blazers it has become clear the duo of Lillard and McCollum has reached its peak. It’s time to break them up and while they would certainly like to be the team that lands Simmons, that’s not how the cards fell.

Its true that Buddy Hield is a step down from McCollum in terms of scoring, but he’s almost as good as a playmaker and even better as a floor spacer. Marvin Bagley is a former lottery pick and needs a fresh start, as he still has All-Star potential if developed correctly. With the Jusuf Nurkic era appearing to come to an end in Portland, Bagley could play himself into a long-term gig with the Blazers.

Shake Milton is a nice rotational piece as well.  One first round pick and regaining the control of their two second round picks is also a win. It’s breaking a dollar into four quarters but at least one of those quarters has All-Star potential.

The Sixers get close to Simmons’ value in this trade, the Kings get a bonafied All-Star and the Blazers get to retool a roster around Lillard. If there’s a loser in this potential trade it would be Portland, but that’s if your not high on Bagley but I am so this deal works out for all parties involved.
