On this special episode of the Sixer Sense Podcast, we welcome a man who needs no introduction. If you watched him coach Charles Barkley in the 80’s and 90’s, you remember him pacing the sidelines. More recently, if you turn on NBC Sports Philly before and after the 76ers play, you will recognize his face on the screen as he offers game analysis. Jimmy Lynam talks with us about a variety of issues surrounding the Sixers and his career.
The first topic that Lucas Johnson and Christopher Kline bring up is the experience that Jimmy Lynam remembers as a head coach for the 76ers. He takes a trip down memory lane, mentioning players that once helped pack the Spectrum several decades ago. He also describes how special his overall experience was as a head coach, joining a fraternity of men who led the most talented pro basketball players of their time.
After Coach Lynam reveals details about his personal experiences, the podcast goes into the current state of the Sixers. He discusses whether or not he believes Damian Lillard will be traded for Ben Simmons, and what he would have focused on to get Simmons to shoot if he coached him back in the day.
The next topic revolves around the Sixers’ offseason moves. Does Coach Lynam think management improved the roster? Are they better right now than they were a year ago? Was re-signing Furkan Korkmaz and Danny Green the right move?
Then, we ask Coach Lynam about the unique play of the Sixers’ MVP, Joel Embiid. He even compares Embiid to one of the greatest centers of all time, Wilt Chamberlain. In the conversation, he tells a story about how Chamberlain was so dominant, that he changed certain NBA rules.
We really appreciate Coach Jimmy Lynam for joining us on the podcast and hope he returns to talk more Sixers basketball with us in the future.
