Re-drafting the 2019 NBA Draft — 10. Tyler Herro, Atlanta Hawks

Tyler Herro is another highly touted second-year player who stumbled amid the COVID weirdness of last season. Herro was a mixed bag in his sophomore campaign, but how many rookies can carry the offensive workload he did for a Finals team? The Bubble was a rash of outlier performances, but there is still good reason to invest in Herro’s floor and ceiling.

Even in a “rocky” season, Herro averaged 15.1 points and 5.0 rebounds, playing 30.3 minutes per game and burying 36.0 percent of his 3s. He has one of the cleanest shooting strokes of anyone on the board, and his upside as a pull-up shooter and secondary ball-handler would make him an impact member of Atlanta’s deep second unit.

That said, poor defense, some shaky advanced stats, and the general inconsistency of his performance to date — outside of that marvelous Bubble run — keeps him on the edge of the top 10. A strong third campaign could make me look stupid.
