Re-drafting the 2019 NBA Draft — 19. Jordan Poole, San Antonio Spurs
The Warriors were pleasantly surprised with a strong sophomore season from Jordan Poole, who stepped into the void of perimeter creators on the roster and performed admirably. He only played 19.4 minutes per game, but averaged 12.0 points on respectable .432/.351/.882 shooting splits.
The Spurs have a pretty deep backcourt, but Poole gives them a unique boost of perimeter creation and floor spacing. He becomes one of the best shooters on the team upon arrival, and complements both Dejounte Murray and Derrick White in various lineup combinations. He can play on or off the ball, and defend either guard spot at 6-foot-4.
Poole’s volume scoring upside should at least make him a serviceable bench guard for a long time. He plays with an excellent sense of pace and speed, shifting gears to keep his defender off-balance. Poole can pull up from well behind the 3-point line, and he never lacks for confidence. There aren’t many better places to develop his skills and mitigate his weaknesses than San Antonio.
