Re-drafting the 2019 NBA Draft — 26. Dylan Windler, Cleveland Cavaliers
Injuries have kept Dylan Windler on the periphery of Cleveland’s rebuild so far, but at this point, there’s no reason for Cleveland change directions. Windler flashed real upside last season, and his collegiate profile remains impressive. He was one of the best perimeter scorers in college basketball a couple years ago.
The Cavs have clearly put a premium on floor spacing with the Lauri Markkanen contract. Cedi Osman’s days are numbers in Cleveland, and Collin Sexton may get traded before he’s up for an uncomfortably large extension. At 6-foot-6, Windler can guard multiple positions and fit into several different lineup combos. That, combined with a clean 3-point stroke, makes him an NBA player.
Cleveland has one of the strongest young cores in the NBA. Expect Windler’s name to gain more prominence in that group next season. He’s never going to touch the Darius Garlands or Evan Mobleys of the world, but he should be in the rotation full-time.
