Re-drafting the 2019 NBA Draft — 30. Bol Bol, Cleveland Cavaliers
To quote Russell Westbrook… why not? It’s the 30th pick, Cleveland has already made two first-round selections, and the risk is moot. Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley anchor the frontcourt, so with Bol Bol, it’s almost entirely upside. If he flops, he flops. No real harm done.
Bol’s NBA reps have been extremely limited so far. Some of that is Denver’s frontcourt depth, but it’s primarily a result of Bol’s lack of readiness. He’s still raw and his potential mostly untapped. He does things offensively that no 7-foot-2 man should be capable of doing, but too often, he looks completely lost on both sides of the ball. Against full-speed NBA competition, Bol just hasn’t cracked the code yet.
Height, length, mobility, shot-blocking, and 3s will keep Bol on the NBA radar for a while longer. He still has time to put the pieces together. It’s not as if Denver has cut him. He’s clearly a part of the future there, assuming Bol can begin talking the necessary steps. Maybe a change of scenery helps him along the journey.
